Biography
“Cameras are tools among the brushes.”
Soile Mottisenkangas is a multidisciplinary media artist and film director specializing in documentary style. At the core of her work is a deep belief in the inherent value of life, which is why she focuses on telling individual human stories in their own environments.
Mottisenkangas does not restrict herself to a single technique or even one artistic field, but rather builds her artistic expression from an endless mixing of new and traditional techniques and interdisciplinary encounters. Her projects therefore include video art, installations, documentary short films, VR, and photography.
Mottisenkangas has been creating visual and video art pieces since the 1990s, graduating with an MA in Film from Screen Academy Scotland in the UK in 2011. Her award-winning short film, Yötyön zen, was released in 2020. Mottisenkangas is also a member of A V-arkki and Muu ry.
Mottisenkangas also works as part of the MÄKI-NEVALA–MOTTISENKANGAS artistic duo. The duo’s strength lies in a polished visual style and straightforward storytelling, focusing on topics that are often overshadowed by larger, more dramatic subjects.
